Is online counseling right for me?

An online counseling session is for you if:

  • The idea of driving across town to get to another appointment or run another errand in the middle of your day makes your head spin (our job is to decrease the stress, not add to it).
  • You like the idea of flexible, convenient, daytime appointments.
  • You like knowing that since we will be meeting in your environment, the work we do can be easily transferred and applied to your life in real-time.
  • You know that the research states teletherapy (done with real time, face-to-face, video-based counseling sessions) is just as effective as therapy conducted in an office setting.

Can I use medical insurance for online counseling?

Most major health insurance companies offer coverage for online counseling.  Pillar Counseling is registered with most major health insurance companies and will take care of all the paperwork and billing for both in-network and out-of-network claims.

How do I know if my health insurance covers online counseling?

The steps to verify whether your visits are covered are the same whether you plan to see a counselor online or in an office. You should contact your insurance company and ask the following questions:

  •  Does my plan cover Mental Health Benefits?
  •  What is my Mental Health Deductible? – It may be separate from your medical deductible.
  •  Have I met my deductible? If not how much have I contributed towards my deductible.
  •  Do I have a Copayment or Coinsurance that will be due at the time of service?
  • Are Online Therapy Services (Telemental Health Services) covered under my plan? (Many states require that insurance companies cover online services).
  • Ask your insurance company if it requires the therapist to be part of a preferred provider network.
  • Is there a limit to the number of sessions?

How much does it cost?

If you choose not to utilize a health insurance plan, the self-pay costs are outlined below:

Individual Counseling

  • 30 minute appointment – $50
  • 45 minute appointment – $75
  • 60 minute appointment – $100

Marriage & Family Counseling

  • 60 minute appointment – $125
  • 75 minute appointment – $150

Personal Coaching

  • 30 minute appointment – $50
  • 45 minute appointment – $75
  • 60 minute appointment – $100

Parenting Skills Education

  • 60 minute appointment – $90

I’d like therapy for both myself and my child, do you offer both parent support and children’s therapy?

Absolutely! Most appointments for children are cooperative between clinician, child and parent. Time is spent in session for the clinician to support the child and learn about their individual concerns. Additionally, the clinician will meet with parents to answer any questions and provide parenting skills that may be helpful in the home.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

Finding a new therapist can be hard. We recommend booking one session as a test run to see if we are a good fit for each other. If you aren’t feeling a connection after the first 1-2 sessions, We’re happy to refer you to another provider who may be a better fit.

I have additional questions, can I speak with you before booking a session?

Absolutely! Let’s set up a discovery call and we can chat on the phone.

What do I need for my first appointment?

Before your first appointment your therapist will send you a link with all necessary documentation.  You will be asked to fill out the information and send it back before or during the first appointment.  You will then go through the completed paperwork together at the start of the appointment.
